MapleBlue Ltd believes passionately in coach-mentoring as a means to help people tap into and meet their full potential.
Coach-mentoring relationships consist of a series of focused conversations between a coach-mentor and a client.
These focused conversations equip the client with insight and new understanding, supporting their learning and development so that they can then:
- Develop their skills and / or
- Improve their performance and / or
- Maximise their potential and / or
- Proactively become the person they want to be.
Kate Whitlock is MapleBlue’s qualified coach-mentor.
Kate strives for flexibility in her coach-mentoring style, which, though largely based on John Whitmore’s ideas around developing self-awareness and responsibility, also incorporates other approaches depending on the individual client’s requirements.
Supportive but challenging, creative but ‘safe’, Kate encourages her clients to find ways to play to their strengths in meeting their objectives. She works with them to pin-point what it is that they want to achieve, and how they are going to reach the goals they set. As the client then takes action and moves forward, Kate assists him or her in meeting milestones and removing obstacles. With a variety of techniques and models at her fingertips, the scope is great for learning, development and results.
Each of Kate’s coach-mentoring relationships is initially set up to last for a certain number of meetings or period of time, as best suits the client and the client’s agenda – for instance, six meetings over six months, ten meetings over the course of a year etc. – with the opportunity to review this arrangement during feedback sessions once the relationship is underway. A preliminary meeting where this is discussed (along with other topics such as expectations and boundaries) takes place prior to the first meeting proper, where coach-mentor and prospective client also get to find out a bit more about each other before agreeing if and how they want to proceed.
Kate’s background is in the cultural sector, primarily in the fields of events and project management. She spent six years running and implementing coaching and mentoring schemes as Events and Services Manager at the Arts Marketing Association, and saw first-hand over 150 arts professionals accessing the schemes grow in ability, confidence and move up their career ladders. Inspired by this experience, in 2009 she gained the CIPD’s certificate in coaching and mentoring (accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and Oxford Brookes University) with merit.

Tom – Sales and Marketing Director
“I am very happy to recommend Kate and the coaching and mentoring work she has provided for members of our team. I believe that active coaching is an invaluable development tool for any knowledge or creative worker in the 21st century, and this is perhaps especially true for senior staff where input and support from outside the company walls can be the surest route to bringing fresh skills, insight and enthusiasm into the team. Kate has played an invaluable role in the ongoing development of team members and helped deliver real long terms results both for me and for the team members working with her.”
David – Investment Manager
“I have worked with Kate for several years during which time she has helped me define and achieve short and medium-term career development goals. I can recommend her to anyone working in small to medium-sized organisations with relatively flat management structures, and/or in organisations with relatively informal performance review processes.”
Hannah – Sales and Conference Manager
“The transformation Kate helped me to achieve in terms of my confidence and ability to deal with potentially stressful meeting situations was enormous. Kate was excellent at helping me to set goals, draw out and amplify positive past experiences, and set my course course for a successful future. She always put my goals at the top of the agenda and that made for a very client-centred approach.”
